WHY KRAISORN VIEWPOINT IS SPECIAL

One of Cheow Lan Lake's Most Rewarding Perspectives

Most visitors experience Cheow Lan Lake from the water. Kraisorn Viewpoint offers something completely different — the chance to leave the boat behind, enter the rainforest, climb into the limestone landscape, and look back across the lake from above.

From the viewpoint, the scale of Cheow Lan Lake becomes much clearer: emerald waterways winding between forest-covered limestone mountains, remote bays disappearing into the distance, and tropical rainforest stretching across the surrounding landscape.

The view is the reward — but the journey through the rainforest is part of what makes it memorable.

THE JOURNEY TO KRAISORN VIEWPOINT

From Cheow Lan Lake to the Mountain Above

Reaching Kraisorn Viewpoint is part of the adventure itself. The journey begins on Cheow Lan Lake, continues through tropical rainforest, and becomes progressively steeper as you climb toward the limestone ridge above the water.

Unlike a roadside viewpoint, Kraisorn must be earned step by step — which is exactly what makes the final panorama feel so rewarding.

01

RATCHAPRAPHA PIER

Begin by Longtail Boat

Meet your guide and board a longtail boat at Ratchaprapha Pier.
Cruise across Cheow Lan Lake through limestone mountains,
forested islands, and remote waterways.

02

REMOTE SHORELINE

Leave the Lake Behind

Arrive at the trail access area and step off
the boat into a much quieter part of the lake.

From here, the journey continues on foot.

03

RAINFOREST TRAIL

Into the Jungle

Walk beneath the tropical canopy through natural forest terrain.
Expect roots, rocks, humidity, and changing ground conditions
depending on recent weather.

This section gives you time to experience the rainforest
before the climb becomes more demanding.

04

STEEPER LIMESTONE TERRAIN

The Climb Begins

As you gain elevation, the terrain becomes steeper and more rugged.

Some sections may require careful footing and the use of hands for balance, particularly where the trail crosses exposed limestone or uneven ground.

05

KRAISORN VIEWPOINT

The Reward Above the Lake

Reach the viewpoint and look back across the
extraordinary landscape below — emerald water winding between
limestone mountains, rainforest, islands, and distant valleys.

Take time to rest, photograph the view, and simply absorb the
scale of Cheow Lan Lake from above.

06

DESCENT & RETURN

Back to the Water

After enjoying the viewpoint, carefully
descend through the rainforest and return to your longtail boat.

The journey continues across Cheow Lan Lake before returning
to the pier or continuing with the rest of your itinerary.

LOCAL EXPERT INSIGHT

The descent deserves as much attention as the climb. After rain, natural surfaces can become slippery, and tired legs can make downhill sections more challenging. Good footwear, patience, and following your guide’s pace are important throughout the return journey.

TRAIL DIFFICULTY & FITNESS

A Real Rainforest Trek — Worth the Effort

Kraisorn Viewpoint is a genuine outdoor adventure. The route combines tropical rainforest trails, uneven ground, roots and rocks, followed by steeper limestone terrain as you approach the viewpoint.

You do not need to be an experienced mountaineer, but reasonable fitness, good balance, and confidence on natural terrain are important.

The climb can feel physically demanding, particularly in Khao Sok's warm and humid conditions or after recent rainfall.

WHAT TO EXPECT

NATURAL RAINFOREST TRAIL
Not a Paved Walking Path

Much of the route follows natural forest terrain. Expect exposed roots, rocks, leaves, mud, and surfaces that change with the weather.

STEEPER FINAL SECTIONS
The Trail Gets More Challenging

As you approach the higher limestone terrain, sections become noticeably steeper.

Careful footing is required, and there may be places where using your hands for balance feels more comfortable.

HEAT & HUMIDITY
The Climate Adds to the Challenge

Even when the distance does not appear extreme, tropical heat and humidity can make the trek feel considerably more demanding.

Take your time, drink regularly, and follow the pace recommended by your guide.

THE DESCENT
Coming Down Requires Care Too

Descending can sometimes feel more challenging than climbing, especially after rain when rocks, roots, and soil may become slippery.

Do not rush the return journey.

WEATHER CHANGES EVERYTHING

The Same Trail Can Feel Very Different

Kraisorn is a rainforest trek, so trail conditions are strongly influenced by recent weather.

During dry conditions, sections may be relatively firm. After tropical rain, the same route can become muddy, wet, and significantly more slippery.

Heavy rain, storms, unsafe trail conditions, or National Park restrictions may require the trek to be modified, postponed, or cancelled.

Safety always takes priority over reaching the viewpoint.

LOCAL EXPERT TIP

Good footwear matters more here than almost anything else you bring. Choose walking or hiking shoes with reliable grip. The final climb and descent become much more difficult when footwear cannot handle wet limestone, roots, or muddy rainforest terrain.
