History of Cheow Lan Lake

Cheow Lan Lake, also known as Ratchaprapha Dam, is a major attraction within Khao Sok National Park. The lake was created in 1987 following the construction of the Ratchaprapha Dam, an earthen dam with a clay core built for hydroelectric power generation. The reservoir covers an area of about 185 square kilometers and has a maximum depth of approximately 94 meters.

Cheow Lan Lake is often referred to as the "Guilin of Thailand" due to its striking resemblance to Guilin in China, featuring numerous limestone karsts and small islands that rise dramatically from the water, creating a breathtaking and unique landscape.
